According to Billboard, the former half of rap duo Calle 13 has signed a five-year, multi-platform deal with the Latin media giant, home to the largest Spanish-language radio network in the United States and the biggest Spanish-language television network in the world.
“We are thrilled to be partnering with an artist of Residente’s caliber—whose unique voice, unparalleled art and commitment to social justice deserve a far-reaching platform, now more than ever,” said Jorge ‘Pepo’ Ferradas, president of music for Univision Communications Inc., in a statement.
The deal, encompassing distribution and promotion across Univision and FMG’s television, radio and digital platforms, is unprecedented in Latin music and sure to pivot the Puerto Rican artist to new levels of success as he prepares for the release of his first solo album and a world tour next year.
“In a system that cannibalizes true art, this partnership is a real oasis—it places art and creative freedom at its center, and I can’t wait to start sharing my first pieces over the coming weeks,” Residente added.
With major moves ahead, looks like Residente has 2017 on lock. Salute!
