It isn’t just about the music for Rene “Residente” Perez Joglar of Calle 13. Earlier this week, the “Atrevete Te Te” rapper – first Latino ever – was recognized by the Nobel Peace Summit for being a proud participant in well-known charities like Amnesty International and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF). The Puerto Rican MC was also being honored for his hard-hitting lyrics, which highlight social issues like racism and immigration.

“It has been a great honor receiving the #NobelPeaceSummit by the hands of Nobel Peace Tawakkul Karma, along with Mayor Ada Colau and Professor Arcadi Oliveres,” said Residente on Instagram.

Residente stood with his award at hand amongst his constituents after receiving the honor in Barcelona, Spain. The rapper now joins the ranks of Bono, Bob Geldof and Sean Penn.
