Cardi B has given an imperative reminder to those with disdainful misconceptions about feminism to take a hike.
On Wednesday (Nov. 16), the budding actress responded to critics who questioned her interpretation of feminism. Fresh off her VIBE Viva digital cover reveal this week, the entertainer joyfully hopped on Instagram, telling fans how women from different backgrounds can unite, no matter what. She also made it a point to encourage her 5.1 million followers to do the same. As some agreed, others chimed in to tell the Bronx native she will never be seen as a feminist.
Unbothered, but eager to educate, Cardi gave away a few gems on feminism that often go ignored. “If you believe in equal rights of men and women, that makes you a feminist,” she explains. “I don’t understand how you b***hes feel like being a feminist is being a woman that has an education, that have a degree. That is not being a feminist.”

She continued, “You discouraging a certain type of woman, that definitely doesn’t make you one…There’s only a definition for a simple word. The problem is that being a feminist is something so great and y’all don’t want me to be great, but too bad.”
While many famed feminists like bell hooks, Dolores Huerta and Beyonce have different versions of the term, Cardi’s falls right into the realm that calls for unity among women.
