NBC is joining forces with Undateable duo Bill Lawrence and Adam Sztykiel for Vlad, a new family comedy starring Vladimir Caamano.

Vlad, believe it or not, is inspired by Caamano’s life, and explores his family dynamics while living with his Dominican father and older brother in el Bronx. Yes, someone in the upper echelons of television thought telling a story from a Dominican-American’s point-of-view was incredibly important (not to mention, timely) and could strike comedy gold.
Sztykiel will cowrite the script alongside Caamano, who will also help executive produce it. Lawrence and Doozer president Jeff Ingold will executive produce the multicamera comedy, this according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Caamano, a touring comedian and regular performer at New York’s The Stand Comedy Club, often incorporates la familia into his stand-up routine (watch, below). He won a diversity scholarship at The Peoples Improv Theater, where he also took writing classes.

Vlad is the latest diverse family comedy to be put in development this season, and will hopefully join the successful space of Fresh Off the Boat and Black-ish.
