Following his recent Latin GRAMMY nomination for Luz as Best Urban Music Album, Cuban rapper El B taps hip-hop giant Talib Kweli for “Sigo Aquí”, a chant echoing the power behind rap music in times of uncertainty and political upheaval.
“This song talks about the persistence of doing hip-hop music despite all the setbacks involved with the genre; that was the main reason for inspiration. I wrote the verse and immediately thought to collaborate with a rapper who did not speak Spanish, but had similar ideals,” El B tells VIBE Viva. “Talib Kweli was the first name that came to mind. We immediately got in touch with him. To my astonishment, Talib showed interest and recorded his part for the song, which is produced by Diesel of Puerto Rican origin.”
The Latino wordsmith’s lyrical aptitude is further bolstered by Brooklyn’s own, as Talib fuses his English bars with El B’s Spanish-language poetics on a song that speaks about political revolution, civic duty, and remaining steadfast in the struggle.
For the launch of the video, the pair worked with TIDAL, Jay Z’s streaming service dedicated to giving artists a music platform to further support their respective passions, whether they be social or otherwise.
