The Argentine streets were filled with tens of thousands of woman in protest of gender-based violence across the country on Wednesday (Oct. 19) following the rape and murder of 16-year-old Lucia Perez in Mar del Plata, Argentina.
The protesters wore all black on “Black Wednesday” as they marched towards Buenos Aires’ Plaza de Mayo. This movement was organized by a group known as #NiUnaMenos. Argentina was only the start as the protest spread to several countries in Latin America where they’ve seen similar problems and crimes. Latin America holds seven of the 10 countries with the highest murder rate of women.
Aside from the massive amount of participants, what made this protest all the more memorable were the colorful and deep imagery of illustrations that accompanied the slogan #VivasLasQueremos, #NiUnaMenos, and #NiUnaMas. Protesters carried signs and followed to post illustrations online on social media.
