After experimenting with reality television and involving herself in a tumultuous relationship with Erica Mena, Cyn Santana has been steadily working on a brand that oozes comfort, sexy, carefree and fun. The ultimate goal? To build an enterprise that is run by and for women.
At Beautique Studios in New Jersey, Cyn is fiddling with her models, adjusting their outfits and dancing to Rihanna, all while taking swigs of bubbly in between. Here, she is preparing to shoot a new launch for her growing clothing line, NU. It’s exciting to see the studio filled with women from various parts of the world, bearing skin tones that span the complexion spectrum.
In addition to cultural diversity, Santana’s designer work is inspired by women with a little more cushion. “Unfortunately, the plus size selections are really, really bad,” explains Santana. “I wanted to make something different for them. Something still casual, still sexy. We should all be respected the same even if we have different body figures.”
Santana grew up in a colorful Salvadorian/Dominican household in Washington Heights, where family gatherings, slamming domino tournaments, roaring laughter, Caribbean feasts, musica tipica and lots of dancing were the norm. It’s because of this that she can’t help but prance throughout the studio, whining it up to “Work” as she works.

After her foray into entertainment via VH1‘s hit series Love & Hip Hop New York, Santana utilized the opportunity to travel the world, meet people of different backgrounds and, ultimately, learn from those encounters. “I try to bring everything with me that I’ve learned back home. I just want to teach everyone to live their life to the fullest.” NU is a direct result of her experiences.
“NU is not for the faint of heart. It is for the confident and fearless woman ready to conquer her world,” says Santana. “The confident and brave – women who aren’t afraid to feel comfortable in their own skin. Whether she’s in the office or having a night on the town.”
Expect for Cyn’s NU line to launch later this month. In the meantime, check out what she’s working with in our exclusive behind-the-scenes footage above, courtesy of SeJoe Entertainment.
