The annual Glastonbury festival, created back in 1970, has been home to huge names like Kanye West, David Bowie, Amy Winehouse and Beyoncé. The four-day jamboree of contemporary performing arts this year will also house the newly-developed Sisterhood stage, Glastonbury’s first-ever women-only venue. It’s meant to serve those who identify as a woman, regardless of race, ethnicity, background, gender or sexuality.
Organizers describe the venue as “a labor of love for women, by women.” The entire staff, the hosts and guests will also only be those who identify as women. The festival will include workshops, music, performances and talks meant to celebrate being a woman in a world that’s designed to benefit men and sexualize women.
The ultimate goal? For “women to connect, network, share their stories, have fun and learn the best way to support each other in our global struggle to end oppression against women.” This year’s event will include performances from names like Adele, Coldplay, Ellie Goulding and Disclosure.
