
On July 9, the Hamilton cast, including star and creator Lin-Manuel Miranda, will have reached the end of their contracts, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter. That’s less than a month after the Tony Awards (June 12), where the hip-hop musical has a record 16 nominations.
Miranda will reportedly depart from the show then to work on other projects, including a new film for his first Broadway hit In The Heights, Disney’s Mary Poppins Returns, and a new musical he’s mulling over.
But while production sets an exit date, other star characters are seeking hefty salary increases. (Last week, Hamilton grossed a whopping $1.9 million). Sources say the crew is prepared to walk should their needs not be met.
