As if Hamilton isn’t already making history with a hip-hop based biography about the first U.S. Secretary of Treasury, while featuring a cast largely made up of people of color. The Lin-Manuel Miranda produced megahit musical — sold out until fall 2016 — has nabbed a record-breaking 16 Tony Award nominations, making the show the biggest draw in Broadway history. The 15-nominations record was held by The Producers and Billy Elliot.
Earlier this year, Miranda won a 2016 Pulitzer Prize for Hamilton, which also garnered a Grammy Award and coveted spot on the Billboard 200 charts. Expect for Atlantic Records to release a Hamilton mixtape this fall, featuring Chance the Rapper, SIA, Usher and more.
The Tony Awards will take place June 12, with James Corden playing host from the Beacon Theatre. For the complete list of nominations, visit here. Congrats to Lin and his thespian squad!
