A state representative from Illinois is strongly urging NBC to relieve Donald Trump of his hosting duties on Saturday Night Live, slated for Nov. 7. Rep. Luis Gutiérrez (D-IL) issued a two-page letter in which he asks NBC to “disinvite” Trump from hosting the show. He asserts that if executives allow him to host the show then they would be co-signing his bigoted remarks towards Latinos and support his outrageous stance on immigration.

“Having Trump on as a guest on every news and entertainment program is one thing,” said Gutiérrez. “but allowing him to host Saturday Night Live is another. It is a level of endorsement that says to America that every hateful and racist thing that Donald Trump has said the moment he launched his campaign is acceptable and and no big deal.”
Gutiérrez continues by citing NBC’s initial reaction to Trump’s inappropriate remarks at the beginning of his presidential run. He also points out other major corporations like Macy’s, Serta, and Univision who quickly dropped Trump after his statements. Gutiérrez is also aware that the Republican candidate has become ratings magnet for television but wants corporations to see past that in order to make a definitive statement.
