From Budweiser to Coca-Cola, Super Bowl ads were chock full of political statements in the wake of “Trump’s America” to the point that Fox censored one particular message that it deemed too “controversial” for television.
In their latest commercial, 84 Lumber tells the story of a mother and daughter’s perilous journey to the United States. After surviving harsh weather, rough waters and the threat of dehydration, the duo’s American dreams are thwarted by what appears to be the 45th president’s proposed U.S.-Mexico border wall—that is until they find an unbarred pass into the “land of the free.”
“I still can’t even understand why it was censored,” 84 Lumber president and owner Maggie Hardy told the New York Times. “In fact, I’m flabbergasted by that in today’s day and age. It’s not pornographic, it’s not immoral, it’s not racist.”
