J Balvin continues to stamp his global superstar status as one of few Latin acts to land on the Billboard Hot 100, but he’s not completely surprised that America has embraced Spanish music in this present day.
“I think that the world now is even smaller with all the social medias. Everybody can reach something if they really want to listen to it. Now it’s easier and quicker,” the reggaetonero told Forbes. “The new generation I think is more open minded, just to check it out, what’s going on, and feel like the right vibe. I think it’s changing and I think it’s gonna be even better by the time pass by.”
With that in mind, the Energia artist, who recently took home the iHeartRadio Music Award for “Latin Album of the Year,” doesn’t believe his success overseas is contingent on an English album. “Well, I’m not in a rush. I’m not in a hurry for that,” he said. “The new official soundtrack for [The Fate of the Furious], which is the new [Fast and the Furious], it’s in English and it’s with me. It’s Camila Cabello, Pitbull, and I. It happened organically, and it’s in English. If they need me and they want me to do something in English, I’ll do it. It’s not my priority right now but if I can do it in a good way and represent and it sounds right, I would make it. With this song, it’s gonna be like a game changer for me.”
For now, the Guinness World Record title-holder is focused on outdoing his previous best. “My dream is to go…like what we did last year, we want to triple that this year,” he explained. “More music, more videos, more impact to society, good energy and good vibes.”
