Jennifer Lopez is signing on for another competition show, and this time, she’s bringing the dance moves. After wrapping up with American Idol, it was announced Tuesday (July 19) that Lopez has partnered with NBC for World of Dance.
The unscripted series will bring elite dancers from all across the globe to compete in “epic battles of artistry, precision and athleticism,” according to Billboard. The dancers will be chosen from a host of events around the country and an online submission. Solo dancers will reportedly compete against crews in varying musical genres with a wide range of dancing styles, including krumping, ballet, and break dancing.
The dancers will be divided into three categories such as Junior, which involves acts under 16-years old. The upper category will include acts over 16 with one to four members. The team category will also include acts over 16 with five or more members. The dancers will be judged by a panel of experts based on routine, execution, presentation, and crowd appeal. The winners from each category will go on to compete in a final round for a grand prize of $1 million and being crowned ‘Best In the World’.
“This will be a fierce talent-heavy dance competition that embraces the raw emotion and excitement that dance represents,” said Lopez in a statement. “I am excited to work with World of Dance, an organization that has had an immeasurable impact on the dance community, to give all dancers an enormous platform where their dreams can be realized.”
Whether or not Lopez will appear in front of the cameras has yet to be announced. However, she is said to be serving as executive producer with the likes of Benny Medina, in addition to her Nuyorican Productions company assisting in the process of it all.
