Another lead actor is saying his goodbyes to the Hamiltonstage. Leslie Odom Jr, who recently won a Tony Award for Best Leading Actor in a Musical, has just announced his departure from the 11 Tony Award-winning musical on Facebook.
“I am indeed leaving on July 9. It has just been the most completely wonderful, totally healing, and inspiring experience from beginning to end,” said Odom. “I will never forget the people that I’ve met here. I’ll never forget all of you.” Odom did not share his future plans, but he did share his excitement for a blank page after his journey as Aaron Burr ends.
This news comes after Hamilton himself, Lin-Manual Miranda, announced his own departure from the show, July 9. His understudy Javier Muñoz will be taking the spotlight starting July 11.
On the upside, Miranda says the original cast will be filming the production for their fans, something Odom warns he might not be involved with. “As of right now, I am not a part of that film,” he said. “I’ll let you know if anything changes. I would love to be a part of it. There’s a small chance I won’t be, and if I’m not, I’m sure they’ll find somebody great.”
