Vanity Fair México Editorial Director Lourdes Garzón has landed in hot water for allegedly criticizing the Mexican community’s response to Melania Trump’s cover story. The latest issue attracted a swarm of criticism, given that newly-inaugurated “Leader of the Free World” Donald Trump isn’t backing down from building a wall between Mexico and the United States.
In fact, the Republican president put his plan into action on Wednesday (Jan. 25), the same day Mexican officials Luis Videgaray and Ildefonso Guajardo Villarreal visited the White House to discuss positive relations between the two nations, Remezcla reports.
With a focus on Donald and Melania Trump’s love story and wealth, the untimely feature vastly ignores the blazing tension birthed out of bigotry and xenophobia. To add insult to injury, Garzón has been accused of offering an insensitive response to the outcry. “Your Mexican compatriots are such crybabies,” she reportedly wrote in a now-deleted tweet.

In a statement released online, Vanity Fair México claims that Garzón’s account was hacked and that she was not behind the insulting message, but it appears that there’s no bouncing back from the damage already done.
