Former Yankees player Jose Canseco is transitioning into a woman, post baseball life. The Cuban-American will attempt to live as a woman for seven days in support of Caitlyn Jenner. The old slugger at first couldn’t grasp the Olympic champion’s desire to identify as female, but he’s now going the distance to fully back her up.
“Once I watched [Bruce Jenner’s Diane Sawyer interview] more and more, and realized what it really entailed, what he was going through, I started supporting him,” Canseco told Daily News.
But what procedures will the “Godfather of steroids” undergo in order to become a woman for an entire week? “The only thing I can do is confirm it,” he said. “I can’t say exactly how it’s going to be done yet. It will be done for about a week — it will be on my Internet show called, Spend a day with Jose.”
Canseco last played in the majors circa 2001 for the White Sox. In his prime, he and his Oakland Athletics teammate Mark McGwire were known as The Bash Brothers. In 2005, the 51-year-old wrote New York Times bestseller “Juiced,” which exposed baseball’s steroid culture.
