The Pulse nightclub victims were honored at the Orlando Magic season opener. The Orlando Magic players came out in #OrlandoUnited shirts with rainbow colored hearts on them and bowed their heads silently during the national anthem. The players continued their warm-ups in the shirts. The pre-game ceremony took place at the Orlando Amway Center, which is two miles from what was dubbed an anti-gay massacre.
The pregame ceremony presented a moment of silence while raising a banner etched with the words “Orlando United No. 49.” The NBA announcer honored the victims during the ceremony saying, “tonight we honor their lives, the heroes who emerged that early morning and a healing community that showed the world love always conquers hate.”
Orlando Magic owner Richard Devos and his family announced a $500,000 donation to OneOrlando Fund. OneOrlando Fund is a non-profit organization dedicated to aiding the families of Orlando shooting victims.
