By day, you may recognize Romeo Santos as the acclaimed bachata singer whose past singles like “Propuesta Indecente” and “Promise” have earned him certified platinum 20 times over, but the accomplished singer and Dominican heartthrob seems to have another side to him. In collaboration with Marvel, the Roc Nation Latin CEO is now letting that side come through, unveiling his superhero alter ego for the artwork of his latest track, “Héroe Favorito.”
“I always had this fascination with superheroes,” Santos told Billboard. In the Cliff-notes version, the singer’s track, which comes from his new album Golden, sings about a man who develops special abilities. So it was only right that he ask Marvel to collaborate on the visuals. The comic giant’s, in-house Custom division reportedly designed the character, depicting Santos in an all-black bodysuit and trench coat combo with panels and gold detailing. And to disguise his identity, the superhero also dons a black Zorro-esque mask. In terms of finalizing the single artwork, Santos enlisted artist Marco D’Alfonso to paint the sketch.
Unfortunately, Santos’ Marvel superhero will simply remain a 2D painting. The singer reportedly has no intentions of wearing the trench coat and mask in upcoming shows, Billboard reports. But he’s not ruling out an action figure just yet. “Let’s play it by ear,” he said. “One step at a time.” Check out Romeo Santos’ collaboration with Marvel, and preview to “Héroe Favorito” here.
