Happy belated 50th birthday to Wendy Williams! And how you doin’ Vixens?
Just yesterday, the bold and bodacious media maven celebrated her big day. For years, she’s been serving us up with raw gossip, daring and unapologetic interviews and the always entertaining tactic of shade. To celebrate the outspoken personality’s birthday, we’ve rounded up a handful of reasons why we absolutely love her. Continue clicking to check out our 11 reasons to love Wendy Williams.
1. She’s 50 and fabulous
Williams is a great representation of the new generation of 50 or as we’d like to call it fabulous, fine, and fit. Age isn’t holding her back from knowing all the latest gossip. Actually, most of the time she’s schooling us on a daily basis of what’s going on in pop culture. And don’t think she doesn’t hit the clubs either. Although her days of hard partying are behind her, it’s nothing to catch Williams out “dippin’ it and doin’ it,” as she would say.
2. She says it like she means it
Raw and candid is Mrs. Williams-Hunter. She holds her tongue for absolutely no one. If you’re thinking it, more than likely she’s already said it or it’s the next question on her list to spit out in an interview. When it comes to Wendy, you never know what might come out of her mouth and we love it!
3. She’s confident
Aaliyah was right, age ain’t nothing but a number and this 5’11” woman embodies that same mantra. She laughs at herself and openly talks about her past demons in life. Yet, William’s keeps it lighthearted. Ask her about her humongous breast implants and she’ll proudly laugh admitting she has an unproportioned body shape of a “P.” Yes “P,” all boobs, no butt.
4. She’s the Queen of Hot Topics
Snagged from the likes of Barbara Walter’s hit show, The View, Wendy was inspired by the media legend and began her own rendition of the news breakdown. Williams and her team are always ahead of the curve with first dibs on all the juicy gossip.
5. She’s just like you and I
Sure she’s fabulous but Wendy keeps it real. Just by watching one episode of her talk show, you’ll learn that she’s a true foodie (it makes her mouth water just thinking about it), she’s not the best at walking in heels (hints her daily skip to her chair at the beginning of each show), and she’s a lover of rap music. To be honest, Wendy is our friend in our head.
6. She worked her way up
Climbing the ladder of success in hopes of making her dreams a reality, Wendy is no stranger to hustling and working hard for what she wants. She graduated from Northeastern University with a B.A. in communications, worked as a DJ at her college radio station, and began her career at a radio station in the Virgin Islands. With humble beginnings, Williams went after her dreams with a vengeance and pure passion. Today she has her hands in so many different ventures, not only building her brand but monetizing off of her own over-the-top demeanor.
7. She’s humble
Williams always refers to herself as a girl from Jersey with a dream. Sometimes she’s even shocked at her own success and has shed a tear or two on air. The love she receives for being her outspoken self—although it has been both a gift and a curse—is overwhelming her for at times. Even though she’s got a sassy, uncanny mouthpiece, it’s all done in her love for entertaining. In addition, Williams is a supporter of numerous charities and foundations.
8. She’s paving the way for African American woman in media
We love to see women just like us climbing the ranks of the corporate world and making an impact on the world. Williams has received many accolades as she was named to the National Radio Hall of Fame in 2009, “Radio Personality of the Year” by Billboard, Black Radio Exclusive, and Radio & Records industry magazines. Most recently, the Smithsonian Institution showed an interest in the personality as Williams became the first talk show host to donate to the National Museum of American History in Washington, D.C. Go girl!
9. Her show is amazing
Apparently, Jay-Z was right, “numbers don’t lie check the scoreboard.” Six years strong and counting, The Wendy Williams Show has proved to be a contender as the talk show was picked up for syndication. Oh, and did we mention the amazing celebrity guests, musical artists, and numerous guests that make appearances? And how can we forget those wonderful studio audience gifts? Amazing!
10. She’s a wiggy
There’s no doubt about it Wendy loves her wigs, so much so that she created her own collection of wig line called Wendy Williams Hair World. In lieu of her thin hair she opts for wigs, and for this Jersey girl the more volume, the better! According to Mrs. Williams-Hunter, “I’m a big woman with a big personality. A big woman with a big personality cannot have little hair.”
11. She coined the oh-so-fabulous phrase, “How you doin’?”
Snaps for the lady, please! In her own right, Wendy is a what we call a “muva” and embraces the gay culture’s lingo. “How you doin’?”, has become a household saying and when you’ve got heterosexual males saying it you know you’ve won (Booop *in our Nene Leakes voice*). Oh, and don’t forget the hand gesture too, ladies and gents.
