From UPTOWN–So ladies … here’s the scenario: You have been talking to a guy over the phone and through texts. The conversations are good and the attraction is there. He decides it is time to take the next step and go on a date. He makes the dinner plans to a very expensive restaurant. You put on your finery in anticipation of being wined and dined at this restaurant you have heard about everywhere. The excitement is turned all the way up and the chivalry is there. You get to the restaurant and order whatever you want. You have a great time and the food lived up to the hype. The check comes and he whips out a Groupon voucher! HOL’ UP! WAIT A MINUTE! Is going for a price deal a deal breaker for a first date or is this not a big issue? We say Groupon is a definite and unwelcome third wheel on a first date. Here’s why …
Men, let me tell you a little secret. You know when you wonder what a woman really thinks about you after your first date? I’ll give you a heads up. If you have successfully used a Groupon on the first date, but wondered why she hasn’t called or texted you since, it was because she thinks you are cheap. Yes, CHEAP! You can’t get through a whole date using coupons and vouchers without a woman coming to the conclusion that you are a miser. When you’re in a relationship with the woman later on down the line, use your Groupons freely, but until then, try to avoid the cost-cutting urge.
It’s Embarrassing
Picture this, guys: Your date is going smashingly well and when the check comes you’re ready to pay … with your Groupon. But the server returns to the table, saying, “This voucher is only good on Tuesday’s. It’s Friday!” The thought of that scenario just makes me want to curl up and cringe in mortification. AWKWARD! Have some pride, fellas, because as I’m writing this, I am sure that some guy is planning a first date this weekend courtesy of Groupon. Don’t do it! Most vouchers expire within a year, so if you do see a deal you just can’t refuse, save it until you both are comfortable with each other and know where you both stand when it comes to dining on a budget.
