Every girl has those moments when she’s over doing her hair or the hair has been so severely manipulated that it’s time for a little damage control.
Here is a list of fashionable protective styles that will allow your hair to rest and grow.
1. Sew In
Sew-ins are a great way to still have the option of free hair. In order for a sew-in to be a protective style you must use human hair and not braid your natural hair so tightly. The awesome thing about sew-ins are you can flat iron, wash, and tease as much as your heart desires.
Note: Use silk thread because it is softer on your hair.
Box Braids, commonly known as “Poetic Justice” braids, are extremely popular right now. These braids have been seen amongst celebrities including Solange, Tae Heckard and even Beyoncé. These braids are trendy and don’t require much attention.
Corn rows are very simple, carefree and cute, depending on how they’re styled. In the early 2000s, cornrows were extremely popular and seem to be making a comeback like the box braids.
However, this style is still not acceptable for men.
The high bun is a quick style that does not require heat, or much combing. This style is nearly effortless requiring only a hair tie and a few bobby pins.
The goddess braid is a fancy hair style and nice for when you’re craving change. This style can be achieved by slicking your hair back in a ponytail. Next, buy a pack of hair that’s similar to your hair texture. If you’re natural, find hair that has a wave pattern. If you have straight hair, the jumbo braiding hair found at your local beauty supply will work nicely.
Wrap the hair around your ponytail, and divide it in three sections with one of the sections being your hair. Next, blend your hair into one of the sections and continue to braid. Once you’re finished braiding, secure the braid with a small band. To make the braid blend with your hair, pull each side of the braid to make it wide and loose.
