The friendships we go through in life shape us into the people we will ultimately become as adults. From daycare to the work force, there are many types of friendships a person will encounter, but as women, there is nothing like your inner circle of girlfriends.
Whether they were there from childhood or arrived later in life, female friendships are monumental. Even through arguments growing a part and feeling like you no longer need them in life, it’s tough to say where you would be without them. We’ve put together reasons why you’ll always need your girlfriends in this thing called life.
1. They give us reality checks
Girlfriends keep us grounded. There’s nothing more real than your friend telling you to “get it together” or “stop being lazy.” No matter how much we may hate them, those reality checks keep us on our toes and looking at life from a different perspective.
2. They’re the perfect therapist
Who needs to pay a ton of money to spill your problems to a shrink when you’ve got the best listener possible by your side? Girlfriends are there for you through thick and thin and offer many different outlooks to the tribulations of life. They can provide laughter in times of heartache and a shoulder to cry on. Friends are the therapists we need in disguise.
3. You share inside jokes.
No one understands you like your girls. Without friends to share jokes with, life would be a bore.
4. They encourage you.
When you’ve got no one around to tell you “yes you can” and when you feel like you can’t, have no fear because your bestie has your back. Encouraging words from our friends give us that extra push we need to follow through with future plans or let go of past ones.
5. We need them. Period.
Quarter life crisis? Fashion emergency? Heartbreak? Your friend is always there for these events in life. Sometimes as women we feel like we don’t need other women in our lives, but the truth of the matter is, we do. You can’t share every experience with a man and expect him to understand the way your girlfriend would. At the end of the day we need our girls for growth, support, love, laughter and simply to get through life.
