Solange might be Beyonce’s little sister, but she walks to beat of her own drum. Her style’s unique, her music’s one-of-a-kind, and her laid back persona makes her the celeb best friend we’d die to have. The mom of one recently teamed up with Harper’s Bazaar to give an in-depth interview on herself and a style lesson for the ages. Check out 5 things we learned about Solange and fall in love with her all over again.

She may have divorced and had her son at a very young age, but her relationship with her ex, Daniel Smith, is very civil as they work together taking care of their son, Julez; “We co-parent really well. I’m able to say, ‘I need to finish this album, can you step up and take care of the boy?” she told Harper.
Just like others, she uses her past tumultulous situations as inspiration for her incredible music. “It’s a f*cked-up thing—without conflict it’s a lot harder to write interesting songs.”
Her Parents vs Her Music
Her parents were very against her following her sister’s path– “My parents constantly tried to talk me out of being an artist. They had gone through the whole journey with my sister and just wanted me to have a normal teenage life.”
We’re happy she ignored her parents’ advice and followed her own path.
She’s always wanted to move to the N.O. but it was Julez that pushed her to finally do it. “I’ve thought about moving to New Orleans for years but just never had the courage to do it. Now my son is at that age where he’s really establishing friends and a community, so I feel like this is a good time to try it out.”
Surprisingly she’s turning into her parent’s child as she doesn’t want her son to follow her musical journey. “I’m constantly trying to push him to work at the U.N., or be a diplomat. I try to convince him by explaining that he wouldn’t have to wait in lines at the airport, and that he can park anywhere.”
