There’s nothing worse than slipping into a sexy pair of sandals only to discover you have crusty, cracking feet. Yikes! After this very long, dry winter your feet deserve some TLC. Grab a glass of wine and flip on your favorite show, it’s time to get those feet sandal ready.
1. Scrub
Slathering your feet in oils and lotions won’t work if they are laced with dead skin. Treat your bottoms to an invigorating scrub that can be easily whipped up at home.
Here’s what you’ll need:
- Brown Sugar
- Epsom or Sea Salt
- Coconut Oil
Combine equal parts of the ingredients in a bowl. After soaking your feet in warm water for 10 minutes, get to scrubbin’! Massage the scrub in between your toes and on your heels to remove dead skin. The epsom or sea salt will slough off the dead skin cells while the brown sugar will gently exfoliate and polish the skin.
2. Lay it on thick
After you remove the dead skin, it’s time to moisturize. Slather your tootsies with a thick cream like cocoa butter or vaseline and slip them into thick socks or a plastic shopping bag—anything that will trap the heat. The longer you keep your feet inside, the softer they become.
3. Cuticle maintenance
Now that your feet are soft, it’s time to clean up your nails with a cuticle pusher made of metal or wood (keep in mind you can disinfect a metal pusher). Finish with a buffing block and a cuticle cream.
4. Polish
Grab any of the hot spring colors from our Spring nail polish guide to glam up your toes. If you aren’t a chronic polish changer opt for a gel pedicure that can be done at home.
5. Sweat-proof your feet
It’s great to rely on powders to keep toes dry, but it often leaves them looking ashy. Instead, try Feet Up.
