Many times we look into our closets and think I have nothing to wear. Clothes with tags attached spill out, we stare blankly trying to piece things together and still nothing. If you find that you are in this situation more often than not, it is probably because you’re missing the essentials that pull an outfit together.
There are some staple items that every girl should have in her closet. This doesn’t mean that you need to own all of them, but it is truly amazing the number of different looks that can be made no matter what your style might be.–Vicki Valery
1. White Tee
Classic, comfortable and versatile, t-shirts should be a wardrobe staple in every woman’s closet. You can wear it under a blazer, tucked into a skirt, with jeans, or layered under a shirt or sweater.
Black leggings are a must-have. You can wear them with heels or flats, just make sure they are thick, otherwise they can be a little see-through. Wear them with shirts, sweaters, and/or tunics. Add a scarf and jacket for the fall.
3. Ballet Flats
More stylish than sneakers and comfier than heels, ballet flats are the best of both worlds. Wear them on those days when you’re just not in the mood to wear heels.
Dressed up or dressed down, a blazer can add a dash of class to any outfit. The best color to work with is black since it goes with just about anything. Try it with skinny jeans, a plain top and flats for a more casual look or dress it up with a dress or pencil skirt.
5. Dark Denim
Flattering and timeless, a great pair of dark jeans can do wonders for any woman’s wardrobe. Find a pair of jeans that fits you like a glove–not too tight, not too loose. Avoid rips and make sure it has very little fading.
6. Little Black Dress
When you find the perfect LBD, buy two! For business events and dinner parties, your LBD should be modest, classy and flattering. Your second should be a little sexier, which can be worn when you’re ready to enjoy a night on the town. The general rule for this dress is that if it’s going to be short, make sure it isn’t low cut, and if it’s going to be low cut, make sure it’s not too short.
7. Classic Black Pants
On the weekend they’re fun, and during the week they’re totally office-chic. Wear them with a tailored top for the office, or with a softer and more feminine blouse for a movie date with the girls. Black is also slimming so a great pair can go a long way.
