New Hampshire twins were left alone to fend for themselves for four months in an apartment after their parents took their three siblings to Nigeria. Their uncle, 25 year old Giobari Atura, was supposed to look after them, but only came by occasionally to drop off food. When police stopped by in November, only a bare refrigerator and Ramen Noodles were found in the cabinet. Atura has been charged with endangering a child, a misdemeanor.
The case was brought to the attention of the Division of Children, Youth and Families as their school reported the boys had been living on their own for months. The kids were getting themselves up and on the bus, then eating breakfast and lunch at school.
The boy’s father, Jerusalem Monday, left for Nigeria with his wife and three of their children in July. They intended to return in August, but told police they were delayed due to illness and passport issues. The boys were taken into protective custody and then placed into foster care.
