A woman’s hair is her crown and glory, and you would think people would know that you don’t just touch a woman’s hair without permission. However, ole’ boy on the train with Selma director Ava DuVernay was unaware of his mistake – until now, that is.
The Oscar-nominated film director tweeted on Saturday (June 13) about her unpleasant encounter while boarding a train with a stranger who touched her mane:
Missed train dealing w/ a man who touched my hair + when I asked what in all the hells he thought he was doing replied “Is this racial?”

The incident escalated after other women came over to support her, which led to the man yelling at them all. According to DuVernay, the train station’s police then got involved.
“Moral: DON’T TOUCH anyone uninvited. ESPECIALLY not this black woman’s hair,” she tweeted.
Tell ’em Ms. DuVernay!
