As of two years ago, the UN declared Oct. 11 as the International Day of the Girl Child to raise awareness about all issues concerning gender inequality around the world. Luxury department store Barneys New York is using social media to bring attention to women’s issues that affect females.
Barneys has partnered with The Girls’ Lounge – an organization uniting women by providing a place for them to gather at male-dominated events – to encourage women to highlight gender equality issues. Using a social media platform, ladies all over the world are being challenged to finish the sentence, “Anything is possible when …” and then share a photo using the #GirlPossible hashtag.
Plus, the department store has featured digital slideshows of crowd-sourced content in their flagship and regional store windows.
“International Day of the Girl is all about raising awareness for girls’ rights on a global level,” said Charlotte Blechman, executive vice president of marketing and communications, on Barneys The Window.
