Most of us know how the Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston fairytale marriage ended (see: Angelina Jolie). But in an interview with Parade magazine, the Moneyball actor, 42, details his 5-year relationship with Aniston as much less than stellar than fans and even critics could imagine. “I started to get sick of myself sitting on a couch, holding a joint, hiding out. It started feeling pathetic,” he says.
“It became very clear to me that I was so intent on trying to find a movie about an interesting life, but I wasn’t living an interesting life myself,” he adds. “I think my marriage [to Aniston] had something to do with it: trying to pretend the marriage was something that it wasn’t.”
Pitt quickly released a statement to E! Online Tuesday night (May 21) following the release of the interview saying, “It grieves me that this was interpreted this way. Jen is an incredibly giving, loving, and hilarious woman who remains my friend. It is an important relationship I value greatly. The point I was trying to make is not that Jen was dull, but that I was becoming dull to myself — and that, I am responsible for.”
Now living a fulfilling life with Jolie, 36, and their six kids, Pitt tells the mag that he’s focused on being a satisfied man. “I’m satisfied with making true choices and finding the woman I love, Angie, and building a family that I love so much.”
