Many may have heard of Alvin Ailey and Dance Theatre of Harlem, but often fall short when you mention Skin: The Tina Thompson Dance Company.
The company founded 10 years ago by artistic director Tina Thompson is multifaceted and extremely talented that strives to live up to be “the dance company for all.” Not only will you be moved and intrigued by the amount of talent on stage, but you’ll also be inspired to express yourself through “spirit, passion, self-awareness, and pride.”
Thompson’s dance company created household dancers, including Misty Copeland and Ashley Murphy.
This year, the company is continuing its progression and showcasing the “Evolution Project,” a one-weekend series of workshops that will “engage the audience” with their contemporary classes at Broadway Fusion Dance and a discussion panel followed by performances from the troupe.
This Saturday and Sunday (June 2-3), Skin’s two-night performance will feature the world premiere of “Evolution of Purpose” and “Constellation” at the Harlem Stage.
