2015 is Danielle Brooks’ for the taking. The actress, who candidly shed light on her lifelong issues with body image in Glamour, is steadily climbing the ladder outside of the ever-growing hit, Orange is the New Black.

Brooks is set to star in the 2015 Broadway production of The Color Purple, alongside Jennifer Hudson and rising British actress, Cynthia Erivo, playing Sofia, Shug Avery, and Celie, respectively. The breakout beauty said her prior experience singing in church is what will help guide her through the musical and shares with ABC, the excitement in seeing The Color Purple at 15 and now starring in the show. “Now 10 years later, I get to do it. I’m trying to hold it together,” she dished.
And what’s The Color Purple without Oprah? The billionaire, who was a part of the inaugural Broadway production back in 2005 and of course, the film back in 1985, joins the production cast, lead by director, John Doyle.
The modern adaption of Alice Walker’s classic, award-winning novel will begin previews November 9th at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre in New York City with opening night slated for December 10th.
