It’s a designer’s dream to have their garments worn by A-list celebs on the red carpet. With awards season in full swing, our favorite vixens are donning top notch threads and making stars out of the ones who created them. During last night’s Grammy ceremony, Beyonce sent photographers into a tizzy over her custom Michael Costello gown. White, sheer and form fitting, King Bey’s bodacious bod left us “drunk in love” on and off the stage.
Michael Costello, a Project Runway alum, was just one of the few designers chosen to create looks for Beyonce’s Grammy appearance and had no idea until the big night that she had chosen his creation.
“I met her stylist, Ty Hunter, at a Golden Globes after-party and he said he wanted to talk to me about a few Grammy options. I was thrilled, but I knew he was also going to have Elie Saab, Valentino and Donatella Versace whipping up creations, too,” says the designer to LA Times. “Then, less than a week ago, I got a call, and Ty said he wanted to work with us on something special. He came to our showroom in downtown L.A. and we started pulling out the goodies. We worked on a few options for her. My whole sewing room was living a ‘Project Runway’ moment for sure.”
The dress, which will be showcased at New York Fashion Week on February 8, is entirely handmade with a nude mesh overlay and horse hair wire on the hem. Believe it or not, the California native had time to create two other red carpet looks as well. Flip the page to see who else got the Costello treatment.

Alternative singer Skylar Grey left little to the imagination in this flesh tone gown with chest cut out. While the “Love the Way You Lie” songwriter typically goes for the edgy rocker look, it was nice to see her tone things down and play up her natural beauty in a simple gown and pulled back hair. Kudos to Michael Costello for lending his expertise to this red carpet makeover.

How perfect was Tamar Braxton in this form fitting mermaid-style creation? Costello’s garments fit perfectly around the “Love and War” singer’s post baby curves and match her fiery personality. Combined with a darker and shorter hair do and minimal jewelry, we think Tamar looked every bit the Grammy nominee.
