Jewel by Lisa is the Africa-based fashion line designed by Lisa Folawiyo and her team of talented craftsmen. Since 2005, Lisa has been a key player in the African fashion scene mastering the beauty of Ankars with embellished fabrics in sequin, beads, and Swarovski crystals.
Her label started with making skirts. Now, her brand has expanded to dresses, skirts, tops, accessories, and even furnishing. Jewel by Lisa is known for its mixing of fabrics, silk, lace, chiffon, linen, and cotton. Each garment is hand sewn with attention to detail and with intricate workmanship of the highest quality.
For Spring/Summer 2012, Lisa was inspired by the 1960s era of Nigeria. It was a time when men wore traditional garments and women wore flirty printed dress as well as full skirts. She was able to use vintage fashions influence to create modern silhouettes such as cocktail dresses and printed separates.
The patterns for each garment that ranged from dancing African women to vintage stamps was created with the help of textile designer, Banke Kuku.
For Arise Magazine’s 2012 fashion week, Jewel by Lisa presented their fall 2012 “There’s Something About a Lady”. The collection featured a shift into the world of minimalism with custom prints. There were garments that featured beading on one side and combinations of fabrics. Also, she introduced a jewelry collection that she collaborated with fellow Nigerian designer Linda Mesrob of ARIABA on.
Lisa continues to reinterpret prints season after season. Take a look at Jewel by Lisa here.
