The kids of Ferguson, Missouri are taking a stab at racism in a comedic but informative way. In a near three-minute video entitled, “Hey White People: A Kinda Awkward Not to America by #Fergueson Kids” six black kids—who all come from the same block Mike Brown was gunned down on—explain that racism far from over but they are very over racism.
“Is racism is still a thing?” begins the sarcastic video that divulges in the post-racial society argument. “Just because Beyoncé is on your playlist and you voted for Obama doesn’t mean that our generation has seen the end of racist drama,” the kids say as the video bounces from one person to the next.
They use race statistics from stop-and-frisk, (“when they stop black and latinos, they frisk 85%”) and discriminatory hiring practices to reiterate their statement. Over a black backdrop the kids (age ranging between 6 and 13) all say their quirky speech while sporting a FCKH8’s charitable t-shirt “Racism is not over. But I’m over Racism” shirt.
The video was created in honor of Mike Brown and his picture and place of death make a cameo at the end.
