Olympic gold medalist Gabby Douglas has been a trailblazer for women of color since she first hit the mat during the London Summer Olympics and flipped into the hearts of Americans everywhere. Since becoming the first woman of color to become the Individual All-Around Champion, Douglas has used her platform to encourage girls to believe in themselves and chase their dreams. And her work hasn’t gone unnoticed. Barbie has recognized Douglas as a “Shero” honoree, releasing the Gabby Douglass Barbie Doll.
The Barbie Collection defines a “Shero” as “a female hero inspiring girls by breaking boundaries and expanding possibilities for women everywhere.” Douglas celebrated the news on social media and changed her profile pictures on Twitter and Instagram to showcase the doll.
