1. You’re friends’ enemies are your enemies
If your bestie has beef with another girl for whatever reason, you automatically have problems with them. It doesn’t mean that you have to schedule a throw-down– just don’t talk to the girl. Friends have to stick together.
2. Your ex’s friends are not your friends
Sometimes we attempt a relationship with our ex-boo’s homies. Truth is, you were never friends and you never will be friends. His friends have lied for him, taken his side—even when he was wrong–and will always be loyal to him. Does that sound like a friend that you want?
3. Keep it real at all times
Real friends are like solar eclipses–rare. Not everyone deserves your realness, but for the sake of not being phony, try to be yourself at all times and you will attract the right people.
4. Gossip is for the birds
Never ever ever let gossip hurt a happy home. Sometimes we love to talk about people and laugh at it, but never let it get too close to home. You’re allowed to talk about parents, boyfriends, girls you hate or even girls you may like, but never talk about the people in your circle. Nothing spoils a friendship like he said/she said talk.
5. Girl, how do I look?
Don’t lie. If your girlfriend puts together an outfit that looks absolutely horrible; make sure you tell her. Don’t have her leaving the house thinking she looks like Halle. Let her know.
6. Stop telling peoples’ business
Your best friend understands that you may have other friends, but if she tells you something in confidence, why would you tell your other friends or anyone else? What happens between you and your bestie, stays between you and your bestie.
7. Don’t give generic advice
The worst thing you can do is offer advice that she wants to hear. Yes, the truth hurts; but it’s worse to get hurt. Don’t sugarcoat advice and then have your bestie going out and getting hurt or embarrassed. Tell her like it is in advance, so she can prepare for the worst.
8. Pay your friends back please
It’s okay to borrow money– key word being “borrow.” Everything borrowed must be returned; especially money. It’s selfish of you to think that you don’t have to pay back $20 just because you’re besties. Although she may not take it, you should always offer; it’s common courtesy.
9. We’re adults now and time is of the essence
Your best friend is not your man. She doesn’t need to call you every day,buy you things, or boost your self esteem. As an adult, you’re not going to have time for everyone. If you’re bestie is complaining about you not spending enough time with her, she either needs to find a man or a job.
10. The greatest wingman
Don’t ever be a c*ck-blocker. You always want to be a good wingman for your bestie. When macking with a guy, don’t do things that draw attention to her flaws or embarrass her. Your main objective is to get in and get out.
11. Don’t date their exes
This is the most important rule of all. Don’t you dare look at your bestie’s ex–he’s completely off limits. If your “bestie” asks you permission to date your ex, dump her ASAP.
