This past weekend, the city of Philadelphia and the Multicultural Affairs Congress celebrated an explosion of culture and diversity in the arts by hosting it’s fifth annual Global Fusion Festival. The week long Global Fusion Festival, marked by live musical and dance performances, cultural food and merchandise, culminated with a day long finale down by the iconic Penn’s Landing piers on Saturday, July 16th.
Headlined by Vixen faves like Estelle and Melanie Fiona, with special performances by local talent and hip-hop hotties like Maino and Meek Millz, The 2011 Global Fusion Festival was a must-see in the city of brotherly love this weekend. In between jamming to the vibes of our favorite artists and enjoying local Philadelphia fare by the heap, we caught up with the festival’s main attraction; UK bred sweetheart and songstress, Estelle.

On her upcoming album.
Every single song is based on my personal experiences. Like when I sing “Break My Heart” or “I Trust You”, those are all coming from me and my experiences. It’s the most personal and yet comfortable album I’ve ever done. I had the opportunity to work with some great artists on this album. Of course Rick Ross, also Janelle Monae, Akon, NeYo. There are some really great artists on it.
On her five summer beauty must-haves.
- A really good lip! I love bright lipstick. I think it works with everything. You can do no eyes and just have a really good lip on and it makes you look like you’re doing everything.
- Baby wipes because tissues don’t really do it. And baby wipes just make you feel clean and fresh.
- A good head scarf, because you know our hair…we love it out but our hair will get messy in a second.
- A good fan! We’re bringing ladylike back and a good fan does the trick.
- Water – definitely a must-have in the summertime.
On her plans to create a beauty line.
I definitely want to create a product line. I have eczema so, you know, I’ve bounced around with different creams and things like that. So I’ve started developing a cream that takes care of your skin in the summer and the winter. It’s kind of like an all-arounder because it’s so hard to find a cream – especially with our skin – that when you rub it in, it doesn’t look ashy two minutes later. And when [like me] you have eczema on top of it and your skin looks crazy and your dark, it becomes an issue. So yes, I’ve been developing that. Wait for it, it’s going to be good!
