The success of 12 Years a Slave may have inspired a classic story to change directions. The New York Times Reports author Donald McCaig, who’s already penned two Gone With the Wind sequels, has decided to take a chance rewriting another version of the historic novel—this time, from Mammy’s perspective. Apparently, the 75-year-old character is more than just a maid and deserves to have her story told.
While the film has potential to be a powerful learning tool, the fact that we are celebrating yet another slave’s untold story, is definitely a debate-sparker. Ruth’s Journey is set to release in October.
