As we all know, Black women can be catty, über defensive and petty when it comes to dealing with other women. In a world filled to the brim with drama-saturated reality television shows and glorified hoes, it’s no wonder that young women have a hard time exercises sisterhood. Unlike women, most Black men have a strong brotherhood or at least try to. Lacking the female trait (“bitchassness” as Diddy would say), men usually find ways to build with other men in several scenarios instead of tearing each other apart. They’re even able to do this when they don’t know one another.
Vixens, it’s really time to honor our biological codes to empower, build relationships with one another and unify in confidence. This can only breed success, positive lifestyles and
Here are some rules to honoring the code. Get familiar!
1. Realize that women are not your sworn enemies!
I hate when women say, ‘Oh, I’m not a girl’s girl’ because guess what? You are!
Naturally, we are born to facilitate friendships with other women. Even if you’re a tomboy there is room for you during tea time, and if not, there’s other women out there that like rolling around in the dirt as well. Women, despite differences in interests, are not your enemy. Learn to appreciate other women for their likes and dislikes, and realized that their dislikes don’t make you their nemesis.
It’s that simple. Speak to one another and be friendly. You know how women like to get in a room, fold their arms and scowl at one another like, ‘I don’t know her (insert eye roll here!). Let’s all stop doing that starting, um, yesterday! When guys get in a room, at the very least, they have enough respect for their fellow males to shoot a head nod or dap each other up. Can’t we do that, Vixens?
Introduce yourselves, shake hands and attempt to make friends! Try it, and see where it takes you.
Very seldom do we see men go to extremes over a woman, especially if it’s not their girl. Like men, we need to stop fighting over guy’s we barely care about. Sure, he may have done you dirty for the next chick, but she’s not the problem–he is. Of course, your feelings toward her may be sour, but don’t vow to ruin her life over a man that’s not your husband. It only creates a bigger wedge in the current sisterhood gap.
3. Ladies first!
Don’t ditch your friends for a guy you barely know, dismiss loyalty over one small tift or talk shit about your girls! As women, we should always support, protect and serve each other. Look at how men will literally go to blows, then make up the next day. Add a little bit of that to the our lady mix and we can run the world (Beyoncé included!). If we simply maintain respect for one another, our sisterhood can be that much stronger. It’s that simple.
Oh, yeah…and do NOT do shady things like sleep with your friends man or betray them in some sinful way!
4. Fly recognizes fly!
Don’t hate on the next chick just because she’s walking by in something you less than like. Not only does it make you look insecure, it doesn’t breed the sisterly love we’re aiming for. Style isn’t something every woman is born with, so respect each woman style for what it is. Honestly, tearing another woman down for any reason is just shallow.
Vixens, what other ways can you practice sisterhood?
