As the sun moves closer to the earth and the days get longer, we can’t help but want to throw a pair of shades on to block the UV rays. Yes, vitamin D is our friend, but we need to protect our eyes with one of the essential fashion accessories.
The question is, what pair of frames look best on your face? There are a few key elements you must think of when picking out sunglasses: your face shape, frames that contrast with the shape of your face, frame size and fit, skin tone and hair color. Balance is key in the end.
Vixen has rounded up some steps to help you make the best choice and ensure that when you walk out this summer, you look stylish.
Step 1
Ask yourself, what is the shape of your face? People have round, oval, triangle, inverted triangle, square and diamond shaped faces. Once you’ve got that figured out, then you can focus on the fun things…
If you have a round face you should look for rectangular or squarish frames. Oval shaped faces are blessed with the ability to rock the majority of frames, especially square. Triangular-shaped faces should gear towards straight, flat top lines or cat-eyed frames with color. For those of you with inverted triangular-shaped faces, rimless frames and light colors is the way to go. If you have a square or diamond-shaped face, oval frames would suit you best that are rimless.
Now that you’ve determined your face shape and what style frame goes with it, you can move on to size and fit. If your face is slim and petite, you don’t want to select anything that will drown out your features and slip down the bridge of your nose. On the opposite side, if your face is a little chubby, you don’t want anything that makes you look like you have bug eyes and a large head. You also want to make sure the sunglasses fit comfortably over your ears. It’s all about complimenting your features and being comfortable, Vixens.
Believe it or not, there is a lot of technical stuff that you should think about when it comes to picking that perfect pair of sunglasses. For one, your skin tone and hair color have an impact. Everyone has either cool or warm skin and hair tones. Cool skin tones are made up of pink or blue undertones and blond, black and light brown make up cool hair tones. Warm skin tones have a yellow cast and golden blond, brownish gold, red, black and gray. Choose your shades color wisely!
You’re set! Of course there are always going to be a pair of designer shades you just have to have, but keep in mind these steps next time before you make that purchase. After all, comfort is sexy.
