Is your environment less than relaxing? Have you tried just blocking everything out with music or television? If you have, then you’re on the wrong path. Sometimes the environment around us, like constant shade people throw at each other online, a hostile work environment or sometimes our families, may throw off our balance. The best thing you can do is re-create the space around you. This doesn’t mean that you have to be super chill all the time or an upbeat Animaniac, but you can take these tips and apply them to your new environment.–Desire Thompson
Clean Up!
If we see clutter, it usually means that there is a mess awaiting you every time you get home. Just thinking about it can put you in a semi-stressful headspace. Take a weekend to clean up your house or room. You will not only be able to see your floor, but you can sleep peacefully at night.
Make playlists for every mood. When you workout, make a playlist that will get you pumped rather than a sad R&B song or an aggressive Rick Ross jam. Even when you’re at home or at work, use songs that help you move at a nice steady pace. Your ideas will flow better this way!
Smile!
There’s a lot going on in the world right now. With the election debates happening and tuition going up, among other things, there’s a lot to be upset about. The best thing you can do is smile! According to a researcher from Lund University in Sweden, copying a person’s facial expression causes a physical response in the receiver’s body. When you smile, it gives another reason for someone else to–you can be making their day.
Directly Communicate with People
Too many times, I see people with their headphones on or Bluetooth devices in their ears. Take the time to talk to the people around you. This doesn’t mean that you have to talk to strangers, but you’re able to listen to the world around you.
Light Some Candles
Candles can bring the best positivity. Lighting just a few candles on your downtime can help you stay calm, have your home smelling great and help you maintain composure. The environment is calm, cool and collected.
Restore Order in Your Life
To create a positive environment means making some big changes. Restore order by planning things out ahead of time. You can get a planner or use the organizer in your phone. Any time you have a meeting, jot it down so you won’t forget. People are busy more than ever so this will help big time.
Expand Your Interests
Expanding what you read and what you watch on television makes a world of difference. Watching Bad Girls Club will have you in a bad mood, just like your favorite comedy makes you laugh. If you’re a frequent reality TV junkie, give yourself some versatility and check out shows you never watched before. Netflix and Hulu can help you out with this. Also, read more than just blogs. Check out a new book on your phone or your local library (yes, they still exist).
