This year’s Victoria’s Secret fashion show is already set to be one of epic and groundbreaking proportions.
The women’s premium lingerie, womenswear and beauty product company recently announced that Jasmine Tookes will be wearing the highly coveted Bright Night Fantasy Bra. This newly revealed news makes Tookes the third ever black woman to do so in Victoria’s Secret history, following the likes of Selita Ebanks and Tyra Banks.
“I feel like it’s such a milestone for Victoria’s Secret to have a woman of color wearing the fantasy bra, because there’s only been two in the past, and the last one was almost 10 years ago,” Tookes said, as reported by Fashionista. “It’s major, and I think it’s awesome I get to represent that.”
For those unfamiliar with the annual Victoria’s Secret fashion show, the Fantasy Bra is the brand’s highest honor, being both intricately designed and super expensive (a price tag of $3 million). For Tookes, this is surely a huge accomplishment after only becoming a contracted model for the brand back in 2015.
“I never thought I would have this opportunity to wear a $3 million bra, so this is still mind blowing to me,” she continued. “I just wanted to be on the runway and be an Angel, so now that I get to do this—it’s insane.”
