Beauty, truth and awesomeness all describe Kanye West’s rare and surprisingly open interview with The New York Times. The recluse rap savior ended a two-year press hiatus to talk about life in recent months. He dished on Yeezus, compared himself to Steve Jobs, sort of talks about regretting the Taylor Swift apology and gushed about Jay-Z. The self-proclaimed non-celeb also talk about pregnant girlfriend Kim Kardashian.
When NYT writer Jon Caramanica brings up ‘Ye cleaning out Kim’s closet on Keeping Up With The Kardashians, he’s quick to blame the media for the backlash. “That was from a place of love,” Yeezy said. “It’s hard when people read things in a lot of different ways. You know, the amount of backlash I got from it is when I decided to not be on the show anymore. And it’s not that I have an issue with the show; I just have an issue with the amount of backlash that I get. Because I just see like, an amazing person that I’m in love with that I want to help”
With the impending arrival of his daughter next month, the rapper got surprisingly quiet when quizzed about parenthood. Besides saying that he would do anything to protect his partner and child, Ye was quick to point out that “this isn’t America’s baby.”
“I don’t want to explain too much into what my thoughts on, you know, fatherhood are, because I’ve not fully developed those thoughts yet. I don’t have a kid yet.”
