Blossoming actress Keke Palmer looked gorgeous this past weekend at Dove’s 3rd Annual Self-Esteem Weekend. The national rally hopes to raise awareness about issues young girls face everyday, including self-esteem, self-confidence and beauty. Keke, who has managed to stay out of the tabloids and build a promising career, spoke on how she maintains beauty and confidence despite the sometimes negative backlash she receives. “Just as many people that love me, hate me too,” she said to the young girls in the audience. “Even though I’m in the industry and I act and all this stuff, I still suffer from self-esteem issues, from the way that I look or the way that I talk, just nitpicking at myself.” She added that she’d like to use events like this one to help her peers “find healthier ways to have a relationship with beauty and not to have so much anxiety about living up to other people’s expectations.”
The do-gooder also went on to speak about the steps she’s taking to make social media a positive outlet for girls. “I feel like you should use social media for good things, for upcoming events and also if there’s something on your heart that you want to get out.”
Kudos to Keke for using her celebrity for good.–Nicole Brown
