Kerry Washington is proof that racial stereotypes can’t hold you back.
After sitting down with Parks and Recreation star Aziz Ansari in the fourth season of Variety’s “Actors on Actors” series, the Scandal star, herself, had a lot to say about life before the hit ABC drama. The series, which captures actors discussing their acting experiences with other actors, caught the beloved Washington talking about our worst nightmare: Scandal without Kerry.

Set to feature in two different television shows, Washington says that she was fired shortly after both series were greenlit and went to series. According to her, the reasoning was her failing to sound “more ‘girlfriend,’ more like ‘hood,’ more ‘urban.” Ansari, raising an excellent point, responds, “It’s interesting that every person who isn’t a straight, white guy has their version of this.”

Although the two series that Washington were alluding to haven’t been identified, it’s clear that everything worked out for the best. In the best impression of Olivia Pope, herself, “It’s handled.” The entire interview will premiere in season four of “Variety Studio: Actors on Actors” on June 12 and 19 on PBS SoCal.
