The Mother Monster is back with a new album—and this time she’s not alone. Tuesday morning (July 29), Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett announced their new jazz album, Cheek to Cheek on the Today show.
A surprisingly retro and reserved Gaga told Today hosts that the album is very organic. “The collaboration has been so wonderful. It’s so natural singing with Tony,” Gaga said. “I just learn so much from him every day. I’m so happy.” 87-year-old Bennett sang praises on how great of a jazz singer Gaga is.
Before the pop star rose to fame with dominating dance hits like “Bad Romance” and “Poker Face” she was singing jazz hits as a young girl: “Since I was 13, I’ve been singing jazz and I sang “Orange Colored Sky” in this event that we did together to raise money for the impoverished people of New York City,” Gaga said of the song made popular by Nat King Cole. “He heard me sing the song and he said ‘I love it. You singing jazz. You want to do an album together?’ And I said, ‘Of course!’ ”
Be sure to listen to Gaga and Bennett’s album Cheek to Cheek when it releases September 23.
