After 20 years of wedded bliss, Law & Order: SVU star Tamara Tunie has called it quits with husband, jazz musician Gregory Generet. It’s unclear what sparked the love bird’s separation, as only three years ago the pair blushed to Essence magazine about the longevity and secret of their relationship.
The actress, who plays Dr. Melinda Warner on the Wednesday evening crime show, released the following statement:
“It is with a great deal of sadness that Gregory and I are going our separate ways. But, I am looking with optimism at what the future holds. As we transition through this new phase of our lives, we ask for privacy and thank you for your support.”
In their candid interview, Generet revealed time together is equally as important as time apart in a relationship:
“We’re not joined at the hip. We can be in the same room and be in different places in the room and not have to be near each other at every moment. Yet we can just feel each other’s presence all the time.”
This is the 55-year-old’s second marriage, after her first union to Greg Bouquett dissolved in 1991. She and Generet didn’t have any children together.
