Last night (Jan. 7), New York City welcomed back the cast of Love & Hip-Hop. Although a couple Vh1 vets (Yandy Smith, Olivia Longott and Erica Mena) made a strong return, most viewers were getting familiar with the fresh batch of new faces (Tahiry, Joe Budden, Rashidah Ali, Raqi Thunda and Mendeecees). While we could go on and on about the table-shaking, drink-throwing and tattoo-baring first episode, Vixen tapped cast member Erica Mena to dish on the details from her point of view. Click through to read our aftershow chat with her below.
VIBE Vixen:What was your very first impression of the other cast mates?
Erica Mena: I was excited once I found out who was on the new cast. Change is good and this game has many stories to tell. Not to mention how interesting it will be
Can you relate to Tahiry and Joe Budden’s wild storyline?
Absolutely! These men, especially in the industry “limelight,” take advantage and always get away with having their cake and eating it too.
VV: When you first watched the convo between Rich and Olivia, were you offended by his responses to her questions about you?
EM: I wasn’t expecting that from him at all but I can’t be surprised. I have the upper hand right now seeing for myself what goes on behind my back. That would never for a second happen to my face.
VV: What influenced you to get the “R” tattoo?
EM: The tattoo is really not so much of a “Rich” tattoo. I’ve had a crazy, rough last two years. I’ve been working in the game for 10 years, and whether people wanna give me props or not, I’m 25 and I’ve got a pretty great story to tell. I got the music note in the shape of an “R” in red ink to represent the rest of my life. I’m in a great place right now.
Why were you so frustrated by Rich’s attitude at the table with you and Olivia?
I think I had every reason to be. What’s wrong with just saying, “Yes. I’m seeing Erica?”
Did you appreciate Olivia calling the “meeting” between the three of you?
It didn’t matter to me. Clearly she had nothing else better to do. I don’t have anything to hide. No big deal for me.
Rumors are swirling about an, which, at this point, we know is not true. Are you looking forward to something official or long term with Rich?
I’m honestly just enjoying my life right now. I know what’s the real deal; I’m what’s official [laughs]!
Are you and Olivia on better terms currently?
I pay no mind to her honestly. No one does.
Thoughts about Raqi Thunda and her beef with Tahiry?
I think Raqi is desperate. And when it comes to her and Tahiry, I’m happy T has it under control.
Lastly, can we expect that temper of yours to flare up later this season?
I’m fun, crazy, real and if you cross me, I can become a serious force. I’m who I am! Take it or leave it. There will always be a reason for my madness. Welcome to season 3 of Love and Hip Hop!
