As election fever wears off, I can’t help but think about how far this country has come in terms of simple human rights. A little more than 50 years ago, it was illegal for any person to marry someone of a different race.
With a Black president in office and women slowly taking over Congress, it’s about time we reflect on where we’ve been and celebrate where we are today. We salute some of our favorite interracial couples who prove that love knows no bounds.–Nicole Brown
Alfre Woodard and Roderick Spencer
Alfre and screenwriting instructor Roderick have been together for nearly 30 years. Their beautiful daughter Mavis recently served as Miss Golden Globe.
Robert Deniro and Grace Hightower
De Niro is known for his love of Black women, so it came as no surprise when he married Grace back in 1997. Even though they almost divorced a couple years back, the twosome are stronger than ever, recently adopting a little girl to add to their family.
Many wrote off Coco as a groupie due to her outrageous fashion and revealing photos. However, if their hit reality show is any indication, these two are in it for the long haul after more than a decade together.
David Bowie and Iman
Fashion and Rock ‘n Roll never looked so good together. This supermodel and Rock god have been together for more than 20 years, proving that true love never goes out of style.
Eve and Maximillion Cooper
Besides that unfortunate relationship with Steebie J., Eve keeps her love life on the D.L. We rarely see her with her car-racing beau, but I have a feeling things are getting serious between these two.
The former high school sweethearts are a forced to be reckoned with. Between her blossoming acting career and his smooth R&B jams, this twosome will surely make its mark in the entertainment industry.
Unlike her older sister Kim, Khloe seems to have won the lotto in the love department. She married her now L.A. Clipper husband just one month after meeting, and they show no signs of trouble in paradise.
Naomi Campbell and Vladimir Doronin
She’s still killing ’em in the fashion world and maintaining a fabulous relationship at the same time. When asked what she loves about Doronin, she says this: “I like strong men that know what they want, know what they are doing, that tell me what to do.” Well, there you go!
Taye Diggs and Idina Menzel
These two met during the original Broadway production of Rent and have had googly eyes for each other ever since. They’ve endured a lot of racially-charged opposition but managed to start a family in recent years.
